Hilliers isn't too far from you.

 

From my own experience of them, it's always better to get up there and choose the tree yourself, if at all possible.

 

Have you tried the RHS Plantfinder?

They would have been my first choice, but as you say, a bit of a yomp from Poole.

Burntwood Nurseries just off the A33 between Winchester and Amazingstoke, is apparently pretty good although the internet age seems to have passed them by.

Thanks for replies guys - i went to hilliers today and got a very nice davidia - Rupert the chap who worked there seemed like a nice guy and knowledgeable too.

Will definately check out the other nuseries for the future but it went well with hilliers.
