Nice find. I found this oak 'heartwood' 2 years ago. I managed 4 slices from it about quarter inch thick each one. Been above my fireplace ever since and this thread reminded me of the day I found it!

Maybe we should've started a thread 'what's your best heartwood picture?'

Let the bidding begin!!

But unfortunately there was only the mirror image of it that was as good. (guess who got that) The next cut was not too bad but the next was starting to look like normal round growth rings.

I will give you a bullseye for a decent slice? oiled so it dont crack:thumbup1:

Honestly, I'll have a look in the morning at the remaining bits to see if any other slices would be any good. At the most there will probably only be 2 I bet.

If there is anything decent then I'm sure we can sort something out. You and bob asked, so first come first served in my opinion. I'm sure we will probably meet up at a show or whatever so maybe you could get us a beer!!

But... Don't hold your breath. Only three cuts and the image was totally different. It depends on how thick the slice can be without drying out too quickly and cracking.

Any advice ?? Would be a shame if the one I've got was damaged.
