Foolishly lent saw out and...

My neighbour had been running my prize 357 WITH ABSOLUTELY NO CHAIN OIL:scared1::scared1::scared1:

Probably for a few hours. I could cry. Anyone know if it'll have any long term effects and what, besides never lending it out again, I can do to rectify any harm?

Chain and bar damage. If the chain was run really hard it might have got hot enough to damage some of the casing. It it's still running fine, i'd tell neighbour that they owe me a new bar and chain and thankgod that they didn't refuel it with straight petrol!

Also worth having a look at the sprocket.

Luckily he didn't use straight petrol! But I'm starting to wonder how accurately the two stroke was mixed. Lesson learned! Thanks folks.

What Tony says is right. Cover it in oil and as long as he hasn't completely mullered it, it should be fine.

Just out of interest, if your saw is "prized", why lend it out at all? Couldn't you have said "Don't lend my work tools out, sorry, but slip me a drink and I'll come and sort it for you one afternoon" Not picking an arguement, just what I would have done.

I'd never lend any of my gear for the above reason, but also for a couple of others.

What if he'd cut himself badly with your kit in your abscence? He obviously didnt know how to use a saw!

How would you have felt if the neighbour had then gone out and done a tree job with your kit, a job which you could have had and earned money from?

Before I lend any loaner chainsaw. I show where bar oil goes and tell to top off every tank of fuel. Then I explain mix in fuel.

Some people are only as smart as you tell them or teach them. Never ever hand a chainsaw over and assume they know what to do.

I have a partner 550 out on loan right now. Just wanted some more run time and feedback after rebuild on it, that I cant give it right now.
