W.ide board KILNED hardwood wanted

GUys i have a friend who has built the most indreible oak framed house over the last 4 years.....it is beyond belief, an homage to wood. It is nearly finished, but one of the things delaying it is the timber for one of the staircases. He needs very wide kilned hardwood for the treads. I have an extensive cutting list off him. My mate has sourced this, but it is from a particularly pricey local supplier, and i said i would put some feelers out to see if anybody could help out.

How wide are we talking Tommer? Any preference on species, and what sort of lead time would be acceptable?

Can I ask why kiln dried specifically Tom?

 

I do have air dried Elm, in 2" planks, 2 years seasoned and most upto 20" wide. About 16 boards 8 feet long.

Generally speaking, you will get quite a bit of movement on timber over 12% MC. It's very very difficult to get air dried timber that dry, and just about impossible in Scotland.

Because it is for a staircase.
