i think its the seed from the berries that is poisonous the fruit is fine to eat. my groundie does it occasionally. yea fence it. give em a quote! or do a temporary job till you get the ok. sometimes removing a few small limbs a propos a minimal crown lift is the sort of thing the TO would be glad you didnt get them out for. im not talking about getting away with stuff, just being sensible & realistic. are there berries on the ground though?

Fell it.

£600 cash.

Seriously, it would be a great shame to lose it, but a fence that would keep a determined berry-eater out would look pretty ugly.

Temporary fence while the CA issue is sorted for sure, but long term I don't know what to suggest.

Huck, how would you take all the berries off? You aren't allowed to sit on the stem on your spikes knocking massive lumps off with your 66 you know.:001_tt2:

Thanks for ideas and input.

Fence I believe is not an option because it is next to a path/access so no go there.

Picking the berries would possibly be a short term solution but same again next year?.

Long term may be dependant on the TO and wether it is worth making a TPO on a tree in a rear garden which has a distinct problem.

Spoke with the TO today and the considered opinion was to keep a closer eye on the resident, not very helpfull realy, the staff have quite a bit to do and cannot watch each and everyone all the time.

I think we will do a combination of removing/picking berries together with removing an absolute minimum amount of lower secondary branches in order to make the situation safe for the resident and notify the LPA we intend to fell the tree on behalf of the client. If it happened again and they were taken seriously ill you can imagine the media response.
