Yep sorry people. Leave you in suspense and all.

 

The saw wasn't running right due to a blunt chain. I started it in the workshop and it went lovely.

 

So just a sharpen and it was all good.

New problem with my contra/090 project, it has destroyed the new starter ring, anyone else wishing to convert a contra, 1, don't up the compression with a liquid base, 2, always use the decompression button, 3, check the ring quite often! I have been told that decomp buttons save the starter, but on newer models (and much smaller) the engine isn't really a problem to pull over, obviously if its a massive stonking engine and a metal-on-metal friction design, this is very important

Liquid gasket should be ok, you sure the cylinder base is a flat surface and your leaving it 24 hour to dry? Worse case scenario get some gasket paper in the desired thickness you require.

I must admit I use the decomp on the 075/076 rather than bust a gut and wrenching my arm out its socket.

Lol. just wait til you go to file it and find out theres something abnormal about that to like an oddball file or its been butchered with a wrong sizer....

Im surprised its lasted long enough to need the chain sharpened..

Its a rebadged einhell btw if you ever get it in again.

The trouble I have with these cheaper home owner saws is what the hell to charge for a couple of hours work on them - on a pro saw that is earning a living, my charge is earnt back in 2-3 hours, on one of these it amounts to the secondhand value of the saw:001_rolleyes:

 

I have done homeowner saws, like you have, and it is always a bit of an issue. The last one was two hours work...the charge - a crate of Peroni (thats an Italian larger for you less travelled souls):lol:

 

Glad it was a simple one and not a five hour load of ball ache!

Yeah like the ryobi I had with the knackerd oil pump.... Couldn't believe that went ahead.

 

The trouble is parts if you can find them are usually cheap. Its the fitting that costs.

Been working on an MS460 that was condemned by the dealer. The piston shows the damage done by a bad seize.

 

The option was a new OEM cylinder and piston at around £250 and then the labour/setup charge on top of that, cheap Chinese cylinder (risky) so I worked the magic, cleaned the cylinder up (lower pic) and new Meteor piston on order and all for far less cost than the OEM cylinder kit unfitted.

 

I will investigate why it seized by doing a vac/pressure check, checking and taching the carb so the repair will not go the same way:thumbup:

 

The cylinder looks pretty clean and should bed down well - another saw saved:thumbup:

Yes, I was helping him with the details of the saw, so I could find out how to connect the choke, the problem is with mine is, I don't use the decomp as I have to hold it in, which means the starter pawls rip the ring to shreds, I used liquid gasket to up the compression, as I was trying to see what I could get out of the saw, needless to say that after 3-4 starts without a decompression, I will leave porting it for a while
