Rich, that rope rotor looks warn but cant really see in the pic, are the two pawls on the flywheel free? they dont look in the right position to me. the springs do wear and get muck stuck in them, pop the flywheel off and you can tap the pins out holding them in and give all the bits a good clean and oil.

 

The bits are free and move easily. It's the position of them I'm not sure about. But the flywheel has never been off. Just a bit strange how quick its wearing away the plastic part. Put a new one on and its almost instant.

 

Can't sort the running issues until I can try and at least start it.... Crap design IMO.

 

 

Ryan that pot looks salvageable to me. The exhaust port looks like it has sharp edges but without feeling it can't tell really.

 

Acid will clean any ally transfer off and fine grit emery will remove and ridges from piston. Best to do an acid clean and then see if there are any ridges left behind.

The lower one looks further away from the nut than the upper one does, could possibly be catching on just one.

Just been out and had another look at it. The arms are dead in line with each other. Seems that if I hold the top of the pull start assembly when pulling it doesn't do it. Like I need to hold it down.

 

Got the cutter to fire up and a tweak on the l and h screws and it running fine. Just the starter that's annoying. Have to put it down and rest on the assembly when starting. Guess it would be a good backup cutter.

gotcha spud cheers - i never feel totally comfortable that i'm actually hitting the wire in the middle of the ht lead with that little spring - is there a trick?

 

Guess you could pop a pilot hole in with a compass or awl and then push the spur through, I usually just push it in carefully and centrally then folloy up with a continuity check to make sure it is OK.

Heres a couple of snaps of the ms240 cylinder I mentioned in an earlier post. Does anyone think this is salvageable. I have never tried to clean up a cylinder before and wouldnt have the first clue how to other than it involves acid. I have always tried to source used or aftermarket cylinders but as I wish to keep this saw for my own use I would prefer to keep the OEM cylinder.

That looks fixable to me, strange getting intake transfer but it should clean up. Just make sure it is the OEM part and not some Chinese crap you are lavishing effort on:001_rolleyes::lol:

Coming up nicely, started with some fine wet and dry and rubbed lightly for the guts of half an hour. Just to polish up a little and should be good to go. I cannot find a meteor piston for it now. OEM almost £100!! The cylinder is def Mahle.

Just a thought Rich, are you using OE recoil pullies or have you found some after market ones?

 

I have worn out several ones on new cheap chinese rubbish in 30secs just trying to get them started. Made of plasticine.

MS200T just rebuilt for a chappie in Wales - last fault found - a hole blown in to the pumping membrane flap - seen this one a few times now!

 

FIxed Alec AGG221 dodgy Stihl 026, initially had done a pressure/vac check and a carb tune but still wouldnt pull although it seemed OK when I handed it back:blushing:

 

The plug lead needed sorting as there was lack of continuity on it. I then tried cutting with it and seemed OK for a bit but then started dying and playing up, tried a couple of settings on the L screw and once I leaned it right up and richened up the H screw, it all came alive and works fine.

 

Gave it some abuse with a lot of noodling as can be seen and works just fine now:thumbup:

 

Is it just me or are these 024/026 a right pain on carb adjustment - very finiky and a right PITA to ge right - seems to be on older carbs!

Looks like you could do with some more conifer soon :D

Don't know. The new parts came with the saw today. The customer had brought it. Don't know where from.

 

Any idea on the price of a genuine new one.:thumbup1:
