i use a 1:1:1 ratio with pounds for fruit n sugar and bottle for the spirits. however i am not a fan of gin so i tent to use cheap whisky (any blended really), but try the same mix with gooseberries and vodka..... now that is nice, or damsons and brandy......

Does anyone wait till the first frost before picking or is that those old wives talking stories again?

I Think the seasons are to variable now. I pick em if they feel soft.

One bottle gin, drink a 1/3 of it. Meanwhile put sloes on a tray in the freezer overnight (to help break down the slow to release the juice). Add 20% of the bottle with of sloes, add 10% of the bottle with sugar. Shake each day for a several weeks. Add more sugar to suit your taste if required. Decant after a month, if any left.
