lockjack sport clutches...wearing out!

I have had the same clutch for three years.

 

I don't work in the rain which could be a major factor. A dirty gritty rope will rip a clutch to bits in no time.

 

Also if I do a long decent I take some of the load off the clutch by holding the tail of the rope

 

A slight diviation but aluminium does wear quick. I sold my unicender cause am so bold over by the (steel) rope wrench. Buy a rope wrench arbogrunt. You can use the lock jack with it...tom used it today with his and said "ohhhhhhhhh, nice, but 'ow do I go up!"

I thought they were just for, cough, splutter....SRT,, (rinses mouth out .....I'll have to try one out...as they say, 'try everything in life at least twice except incest and single rope technique' !

Have you had a play with a spiderjack Spike,if so wondered how you found it compared to the lockjack.

Never tried one Geoff, I'd like to give on a go though. I'm a bit suspicious of these clutches wearing out so quickly, my first one lasted a year, maybe they are just using softer metal to boost after sales?.

Possible Spike,maybe a different material to change the friction properties?

Next time I see you swinging around I will lend you the spiderjack,see what you think.

yet another clutch slipping today, that the third in a year. I'm on 11/12mm on Yale xtc or Yale scorch. Getting fed up replacing them at £18 a throw..anyone else suffering this?

If you was your rope it will give the clutch a new lease of life:thumbup:

very light sand with sandpaper will also make a difference.

And you pay a lot more than I do for your clutch:confused1:

out of interest do you use a sack for your rope? makes loads of difference!

back on the lockjack clutch subject...what size do you fella's use on what ropes?...I've been using 12/13 on Yale XTC for a while, today I tried it on Marlow Gecko and it was terrible. I then climbed on Yale scorch and it was better than sex, although a bit quick (no prem. ejac. jokes please chaps!).
