First of all hi, this is a great site (more focused than lots of the others!)

 

I was talking today with a guy who I do some logging work with, discussing what the lantra qualification actually means in the real world, I had looked at this BTCV course and wondered if the qualification at the end actually means anything at all? is it worht spending £55 on?

 

we decided between ourselves that lantra sprayer tickets dont really cut the mustard in the contracting world, neither does the Chainsaw ticket? so it begs the question whats the point. Is it just to make homeowners happy and prove if something goes wrong in a non-work (domestic) situation that you have had training?

wasnt the top handle chainsaw marketed as a one handed chainsaw which anyone could buy? then loads of accidents later they decided to sell it as a two handed saw for qualified arborist only?

I reckon its a good idea not hiring top handle saws to the general public.For one it might stop Daddy from playing Arborist off the top of a wobbly ladder,also that top handle seems to encourage a person to hold onto what they are cutting.If your unaccustomed to the traction a chain generates,you can easily have your had pulled into the chain.
