I know a guy who has had them four or five years maybe, hes done Aconcagua, Nepal, Tibet, India, Pyrenees, Toubkal and the Atlas range and the Munros in them, and they are still going strong! They take a bit to wear in but are like slippers after that.

Nepal Extremes are a bit over the top for UK use. Both my wife and me have them, but I've only used them once in the UK... and that was for actual ice climbing.

 

I'd say Mantas are about the best 4 season boot for UK use and a mate of mine regularly wears his in the Alps for some pretty serious climbing.

I almost bought a pair of those mammuts aswell, but they just seem too low.

Scarpa do very good boots, as do Meindl.

Take a look on the 'Alt-berg' site, they are all handmade with fullgrain leathers in Yorkshire, their range of Military boots goes from light use to Norway to desert mountain special forces etc. I brought a pair of 'traditional' keeper boots (simular to their Norway boot) really comfortable had them 2 yrs. On the last x2 winters out on a shoot riding a quad my feet were 'toasty' all day long.

 

I wanted a pair of their traditional motorbike boots with buckles on the side but my son said,"they look camp":blushing:

 

For a pair of boots for everyday winter use with possible walking crams they should be fine.

You can even use your chainsaw whilst doing that arduous ice climb!

The chainsaw protection will help keep your feet warm.

They are a lovely colour too!

I got some Meindl Burma Pro's nearly two years ago and they are so bloody good! I think someone off here has had the same pair for 10 years. For the extra bit of ££ compared to some other boots, you are getting the real deal!

To my mind 2 of the 3 best options have been posted above:

Scarpa Manta and Altberg Mallerstang II.

 

I've had my Mallerstangs for 3.5 years now - I wear them whenever i'm not wearing my saw boots - you wouldn't beleive how good they look still. Seriously well built boots made in the UK! If you like the La Sportiva look though they're maybe a bit too trad though....

 

The other ones i'd be looking at are Haglofs Grym. Spaceage batman materials, rock solid Scandi design, available in a "Hi" or normal height. Having handled a pair I think they'll probably be my next boots.

so went to my local cotswold outdoor shop in peterbough on Tuesday, had a look at both the scarpa mantas and the la sportive, and i think i like the scarpas the most so going back up next week to get them ?????

 

hopefully i have made the right choice.
