I think this is the ideal situation fore the wrench.. i tie a prussic witha ring as a cinch knot and climb below it-pull the tail down to retrieve for working the next section of spar. ill get some pics of the setup, basically the same as taylor does.

Taylor Hamel shows a few options here

I climb on a DRT system but for blocking down I've started choking my main cimbing line back on itself through a bowline (essentially creating an srt system). If you dont like the idea of rope on rope you could add a ring in (ideally not a karabiner as it's be loaded badly against the stem). On my DRT system i'm backing up my hitch with a munter hitch through a karabiner attached to my leg loop but I'd assume you'd be ok with just your SRT setp. As taylor mentions if you leave the tail on the bowline long enough you can decend safely on the false anchor you've created then strop in and pull on the tail bringing the whole thing into reach.

That video is good but way too complicated for a simple operation, there is no need at all for all the multislings and creating a drt. Your chogging down so your on spikes and dont need the drt, just spike back up if you need. Keep it simple and there is less to go wrong or less for you to forget to do:001_rolleyes:

disagree bro-i think its essential to have an escape route when working on spikes. its only one sling made into a prussic, it only takes about a minute to do after all.(presume were talking about the same thing):)

I do have the escape route with the grigri and that takes seconds to set up:thumbup1:

I choke it with a running bowline and if you want to retrieve it all you do is attach the tail of your rope to the loop in the bowline, when you get to ground just pull on the tail.

I agree, I simply use a running bowline and add a abit more friction to my normal climbing system. I just thought I'd share the video as food for thought!
