There have been several threads recently requesting a supply of cord. Are you all planning to process it and sell it this winter?, I assume thats what you have in mind but hardwood simply wont be dry enough for optimum results.

I have been processing stuff over the last few months that has been felled for between one and three years, the soft will be ok but the hard wont. I tested some Silver Birch, end grain of logs about 6%, in the center once cut and split was nearer 40%.

Sorry but you can get over fixated on "optimum results" and moisture content - what matters is that it burns well and gives a good heat output.

We have heated our house for 20 years plus with wood that has been split and stacked in an open fronted and sided shed for as little as 3 months - chimney swept twice in the year.

Quite happy to sell the same stuff and customers happy to get it, yes it is not optimum - but it is perfectly acceptable

Cheers

mmmmn. we split and stack 1.1m then saw to truck later. awful labour intensive splitting! but hardwood we split back in may reads 19% on outside and when we cut it the middle reads 21-24%. protimeter. logs we felled this winter just gone, we've almost finished splitting it all, but whats left- the sycamore some of it's getting sooty under the bark, the birch -starting to get the white mould, the ash- ahh sooo nice. can't imagine the state of the birch and sycamore if we left it in the round another year. but the lure of the processor is very strong...
