Firewood worries

I enjoy it but am in it for the money or at least to earn a living. Problem is traditionally tree surgeons have supplied the demand with about 15 loads near christmas for beer money. There are not that many people who sell cheap logs, most realise cordwood and cherry has doubled in cost in five years. If it helps I have charged nearer the top price and in five years have always sold out but dont have a huge part of my business invested in logs.

Back to the top of this thread.

1. I'm flogging off all my stock at bargain prices.

2. I'm worried I will run out before the season is finished, such is the demand.

I'm not a log supplier and never have been. I have had thoughts of doing it as it's something I love. I have always been put off by the competition I would face. Competition who, on the whole don't seem to want to make any money. You can't compete with that.

I really don't want to piss anyone off here but this thread makes me a bit cross to be honest.

Supply and demand.

I've read this post several times....

... I can't understand what you're saying and/or what your point is?

The way I understand it, he is saying that the OP (and a lot of firewood merchants) is selling too cheap (£150 for 4 M3) especially when he cant keep up with demand and is worried he will run out.

Supply and demand should mean his prices should be a lot higher

Been felling all day its been bugging me! wish i had not stated this thread.

Simply can't increase prices just like that people won't stomach it. we live in difficult times the second recession will be worst than the first and people quite frankly will take the cheapest but expect the best! lost 3 customers this week solely on price not quantity. Yes i may run out but there will become a time when those who are pricey will have wood left at the end of winter!!!

I know what you mean, and you know your own business best. :thumbup1: I can also understand why you dont want to run out too soon. Turning away regular customers and handing them to your opposition on a plate isnt a great feeling!
