Well it's that time of year again.

we started on Saturday a bit earlier than normal, we don't usually start until the 10th of this month.

Dose any one ells do this commercially?

what are you grafting there?

 

Howgate onto m106

we have got all the apples and malus done.

Moved onto cherries and after that it will be the sorbus.

Not really commercially, but I'll be doing a few cherries later this month. I don't have a good source for the apple or pear varieties I'm after so will probably end up buying them in.

Are you creating family trees, or are you going to remove the wood above the graft once it has taken ?

What are the advantages of bud grafting over notch grafting ?

 

yes the top of the rootstock will be cut off in march.

the advantage of budding over notch grafting in this instance is 1 it's quicker and 2 you get a better tree.

I average about 200 per hour with someone tying behind me, depending on variety.
