zipline setup . . .

hey guys i'm hoping to set up a zip-line for my kids after seeing this vid on the treetools blog

i've set up a numerous Tyroleans before but never anything like this, i.e. angled but without a second line to control the descent speed. also what is he using to stop himself mid line before he collides with the ground?

 

i'm guessing you guys that use speed-lines a lot have a few easy tricks that may help me out

He's not using anything to stop himself with, he just glides to the end and stops with a jolt and a laugh.

he nust run hi pulley into something? he'd crash into the tree his line is attached to otherwise?

He is attached to another line you can just see it if you look carefully!

He most likely has measured the length and tied it off where he starts which stops him this or he's being belayed but I doubt it.

You could always have a stopper knot, alpine butterfly etc at desired end point but only if harnessed, if it's a pulley and handle expect to be torn away from the handle when you stop abruptly!

I've made a few, both from and too ground and trees. Best to use low stretch steel cable rather than rope. Are you on flat ground or a slope? How far do you want to zip Get the tension right and you don't need a brake.

we had a second line that was measured to hit a stopper knot a metre or 2 from the end to stop you going into the tree. the zipline rope was yale ultra static access line

Armour Prus 10mm bro-super static but still soft to hold yet ascenders run real good on it. Ive got Globe 10mm and its good for ascenders but i find it too hard to hold onto for footlocking-but saying that Nicky Ward Allen holds the world record FL on globe and JimmyK holds it on AP. shows there both pretty good lines!

AP is nice an soft on the hands true, cleared the acsenders part up though! I wondered if the fine weave might be a problem but obv not!
