Hi all! Im going to bite the bullet and buy myself a new camera :001_smile:

I've read some of the threads on here but Im sure things have moved on in the time since they where active.

Just wonderd what you can recommend for around the £300 mark.

If its a camera you use a few pictures would be great :001_cool:

I bought a Kodak V610 about 4 years ago, and I've never been anything other than happy with it. It has two lenses, giving it a 35-350mm focal range, but they are entirely contained within the body, so don't protrude as you would expect. It's dimensions are 11x5.5x2.5mm and takes standard SD cards. I don't know whether it is still in production, or if so what the price is; mine was £350.

I bought a Canon Eos 1000D twin lens kit, on special, after advice on here from the guys. OK so it's now been superceeded but I'm stoked with it and still haven't learnt how to use it properly. It should keep me going for years. Takes awesome photos too compared to my old cheap and nasty point and press.

a canon S95,which is a belter of a camera, with manual control if you need it,and has the same sensor as the more expensive canon g12 (which I use),and the same image quality.

Three weeks ago, for 259 euro I bought a Canon PowerShot SX230 HS 5.0-70.0 mm optical zoomlens 14x, 12.1 Megapixels, full HD with optical image stabilizer, manual control, advanced subject detection, movie button and GPS, which is quite handy, because you can link the exact location of the tree/fungus to the photo.

For some field "documentation" pictures at close range and long distance, see : Chalara fraxinea and the following hand held try outs on automatic.
