You are right again david. This tree is tagged and i did a hammer test on the butresses and they are totally gone and they were solid this time last year. This is not a very good combination i think. The wood has broken down as fast as ganoderma does on red oaks:001_smile:

Well....was the desicated fungi from Jons pics Collybia fusipes, if so fantastic...well not from a tree managment and public safety aspect, but for us tree geeks!I haven't managed to see any fresh Collybia fb's but did see some old ones on an oak tree at Merrist Wood once...

Dual decay is not at all uncommon, at any one time there can be many many fungi within a trees system, some active others inactive and waiting. i have a great image that I will try to add of inonotus cuticularis and Ganoderma pfiefferi within three feet of eachother, both identical life styles (strategies).
