Sadly thats the only pic I can find, suffice to say that the tree was literally covered from stump to tips in hundreds of brackets.

The tree in question was a street tree, had it failed it would have easily reached the house. The street was a quiet cul-de-sac, popular with local children for playing in.

It was so dead that when the first piece hit the ground it just disintegrated into brown powder. Everything else after that was lowered straight into the back of the truck to minimise clean-up.

You got to be carefull with Piptoporus on Birch they can often look sound rom the ground then you get up there and find because of Silver birch bark properties (they make canoes out of the stuff) it can be perfectly preserved but inside be nothing but dust.

Did you climb that Peter?

.

At the risk of disappointing Skyhuck, no I didnt! Wasnt my tree to climb or not anyway, and since there was a truck mount mewp standing there it would probably have been foolhardy to try climbing it just to prove a point.

Also, with the mewp with two in the basket, it was possible to cut pieces, go down to the chip truck and drop them straight in the back. Chipping proved disastrous as it just produced a massive cloud of brown dust!
