Been felling diseased larch for a couple of months now. 'Phone goes this morning from the agent - "stop everything you are doing...". Great, time and money and all that.

Turns out a few lumps of mud within the wood and this (pictured - it's 30 years old) constitute a SAM (scheduled ancient monument)! FC bows to EH. Hmmm.

Oh well, only had a 2.5 ton tracked chipper and forestry mulcher obliterate the "monument" last week!

I've hurd that there a few site down in Devon that are covered in disesed larch that needs to be felled off but they're having problems with both harvest and extraction because of SAM and other important arceology.

And these gov departments are fighting for power and the final authority on this kind of matter. I've heard EH will try to sue the FC (!!!) for trashing their sites an vice versa for resisting law!
