a new event, anbody know catering regulations?

we are thinking of running a mini ploughing/ tractor/logging working day with a friend of ours and possibly doing the catering in house - got the large oil drum bbq, would be run through the local tractor club were members of, so initially we thought no public just members of the club.

 

could this be done, or do we need to have food regulation certificates and food trading licences? any body know? the more we are thinking of doing it the more it sounds like a minefield, but we we're enthusiastic at the initial thinking stage now sounds like too much trouble?

I have got a feeling that is you are selling food, you will need a basic food hygene cert. But if you are not selling you don't i.e. if you are having a party.

Or you could just wing it and hope that nobody gets food poisoning.

Cover the cost of the food in the ticket price then just give away the food. I'm not 100% sure of that's legit or not, but selling food without the necessary Certs is definitely not

on bonfire night a couple of years ago, a local farmer had a big bonfire, loads of people, he slaughtered a pig and brought loads of hot grub, all served in a horsebox, icecream box for donations was full at the end of the night. everyone happy:thumbup:

thanks guys, just had a look on the web and i could sit a food hygiene cert. city and guilds online for £25 so i may do that to cover ourselves and go from there - will then have to look into the insurance side of things then, and toilets, st. johns etc H&s with working machinery

if you are going to be cooking and selling off a bar bq its worth having a food probe and probing temp before serving food i think its 75 deg c for meat products and a bit less for veggie

When we do an event with the Scouts and sell BBQ food to members of the public I think we are exempt from any food hygiene certs etc as we are selling from a tent and its not a permenant fixture..... dont quote me on that one though!

I do remember that some years ago at an AA show at Highclere, Tony Lane stopped Lucy Dalrymple from making bacon butties for some other exhibitors as she did not a food hygiene ticket. We provided the stuff and Lucy knocked them up. Good luck with the show, can anyone go?

if we get our act together and do it with our friends, i will post and invite who ever wants to come - not sure if anyone will be interested but we are thinking along the lines of a vintage/classic "tractor playday", Rohans always done ploughing etc as a farm contractor but hasnt done any match ploughing etc, and doesnt want to compete in proper ploughing matches as he couldnt stand to get on and off the tractor measuring etc - too much faff, but we bought a old plough for our vintage tractors and our friends have got similar set ups so we thought when the corns off, have a play day and have machinery demos working tractors etc, we saw a similar event held over lincolnshire last year for Roadless, so - watch this space pete - thanks joy:thumbup:
