All the talk about cabling from the last thread got me looking for this video that was shot in early spring. Just finished the editing. It shows a medium sized Norway Maple that had a bad cable and failed. Very self explanatory lots of talking.. not much action.. 9 minutes if you want to sit through it...

do u have cobra bracing out there daniel? if not look it up,, think you would aprove of it,, another great video dan keep them coming

Am I correct thinking another benefit is the fact that cobra will flex in the wind too?

 

yes,, cobra allows the tree to move but absorbes the shock reducing failier

Great instructional information there D. Valid points have followed in the thread so far. To see the methods used in other countries is extremely valuable and we should also understand that natural, man-made and economic environments differ from region to region and country to country. Thanks for the movie: yet again!

Ye Cobra bracings the way to go. In my experience theyre easier to install, less weight up the tree and less tools needed. Way better for the tree. Drilling holes just creates an area for spores in the area to enter the tree and cause deccay. A Cobra brace is just as strong if used properly. Great vid though. Obviously very knwoldgable and enthusiastic about his work.
