Hamadryads diary- a new chapter

Recommended Posts

O.k now back to our problem with the aromatic earthfan (files named hedgehog in error!)

Theses where in this area of woodland so abundant as to be obscene, I also dug into the substrate to ascertain mycelium connections, which was a mass of mycelium not unlike the matts under and associated with Ramaria stricta. The substrate turned out to be the deep leaf littler layer which the mycelium was cleary binding up. This was made all the more obvious by the patterns of emergence following catchments of leaf littler on this embankment. the fruit bodies where oddly shaped for the most part, sometimes a clump or distorted cluster.

The last photo does seem to be different, did I find both species in close proximity, these appear to have a stipe of some description and a less wavy margin?

named hedgehog ... so abundant as to be obscene

Which, together with some Chanterelles, would have been suited for quite a tasty meal :001_rolleyes: .

And though I know Sistotrema confluens only from pictures, I was "dragged" to H. repandum by the far to regular round spines, which look like this on S. confluens, the straw yellow colour of the FB's and the lack of forming large clusters.

I had a rather splendid day yesterday, I have been doing freelance climbing for an arbtalker recently and he asked me if I would be interested in taking him for a walk and talk amoung the trees of Epping and Hatfield Forests, I obliged of course! We had a great time and much was shared and gained, which is what I am all about.

I get as much out of these meetings with arbtalkers as they do, and I cannot thank the arbtalkers I meet enough for the continued appreciation and value they place on something I have yet to appreciate the full value of myself.

I get a bit of negativity from a very small minority, but the overwhelming majority appreciate what I try to do and prove its value by gaining so much from our shared experiences.

I have felt incomplete for many years, feeling that I am not fulfilling my potential, that I am not being all I can be and doing all I can do, and wasnt even sure what to do about that incompleteness. Through Arbtalk and its members i have found my purpose or at least found my completeness, for i get so much satisfaction and pleasure from sharing what I have learnt and know with you, days like yesterday are worth more than money ever will be, and as a man who wants more from life than money, thats a big deal.

It is far easier in life to pursue financial security than it is to find your true calling. I now have a plan for the future, and it will involve turning THIS into a means of making what I do a living! it is time i started getting paid it isnt like I dont put the time in!

Anyways, heres a few fungi from our day:001_cool:

First up a rather goosed beech! with Perenniporia fraxinea, Ganoderma sp (applanatum?) Oudemansiella mucida, Xylaria polymorpha and Meripilus giganteus. Other fungi in attendance but not photographed due to poor quality- Diatrype stigma, Hypoxylon mummularium, Pluerotus sp and Schizophylum commune.
