If he has given you the nod then why not.

But I would pump some of the money into your own kit,so you dont lean on his good nature too much.

Maybe his last boss done the same for him and now he's so busy he wants to unload some work on someone he thinks deserves it happened to me:)

same as above.

 

if your gaffers happy, use his gear while you can....but.....

 

look after it as though its your grandmothers, and as well as paying for the gear. if you get a decent job, take your boss and his missus out for a meal once in a while. it'll go miles.

As an ex employer and not as a tree surgeon which I am not ( merely a god of the firewood world (see other thread)) go for it but do it professionally and respect your boss for what he is doing for you and dont forget it.

by kit i mean chipper and van i have all my own saws and climbing gear, i supply my own ppe and sundries
