Tree of heaven pruning reaction.

Not had alot of experience on pruning trees of heaven apart from dead wood removal.

 

How do they react to reduction work? Loads of epicormic reaction. Bad wound reaction growth.

 

I heard the other day that the spp are in the mids of a planting regime in city's so I guess they are fair hardy & tolerant to works carried out.

Horrible brittle things. Will send out lots of epicormic and I think they decay easily from big wounds

You will snap a few branches on the way round mate:) only reduced one was in the rain too horrible! But never got to see how it reacted sorry

I reduced and thinned one gently a year or so ago,if no one gets back on the reaction to pruning,I will have a look in the week.

If you can get back on the reaction from your prune that would be great if time ect is poss. Thanks. gibbon has remarked on the reaction growth & poor reaction of wound wood but if you pass by a foto of said reaction would be top.

Found the same on dead wood removal.

 

Not had the misfortune of working on them in the rain though, but can imagine they are proper slip slide trees.

Usually difficult to get to the ends for a delicate reduction due the brittle properties of the wood. Therefore, most people tend to cut a bit more off and then they sucker up like and become hairier than a dogs rear end.

Very true indeed, I have seen them on the continent and they hit them back hard. They always seem to come back!

Fell it. Awful trees. They're not known as tree of hell for nothing. Short lived and brittle. Yuck.

That sounds a bit Freudian. I think one must have offended me in a previous life.
