Hi i am wondering if anybody can help me ? Do you know of any body selling firewood / split logs in the Warrington area ?

I was buying in all last year but as the weather got colder the prices got dearer and the wood was either not properly seasoned or wet or both !!! I dont want to get caught by my oojaahhs again this year .

I have looked at all the usual places but prices are not that cheap around here .Its for my own consumption, at home , about two transit tippers would see me right i think .

If any body can help i would be grateful

I doubt whoever you get it off will be cheap, what sort of money would you expect to buy two transit loads for in Warrington?

Thanks for looking at my thread everybody.

Windfall i did look at the firewood directory before posting my thread seems that i have no one near me , but thanks any way.

.

Eggsarascal ,2 years ago i was getting a full transit tipper for 80 quid which is very cheap for Warrington , it was mixed hardwood and softwood. however the bloke retired and nobody took over . I have been looking round but when people are charging 4 quid for small nets of softwood and its total crap you do get to be a little worried. I rang two firms last year and for a full transit tipper one wanted 315 quid ( full when explained over the phone was a level load with no greedy boards .) The other quoted even more for the same amount. Now i know fuel prices are going up as well as everything else and i know that everybody has to make a living ,but if i go through 2 transit tippers a winter thats 630 quid , if i did not light the fire and put the central heating on my winter fuel bill would not come to that but i fitted my wood burner so that i could save a bit of money and not feed it to the already bulging coffers of these energy firms , i am willing to pay the going rate . But i refuse to be kicked in me town halls by both the energy firms and local wood suppliers .

If there is anybody in the Warrington/ St Helens area who supplies firewood at a decent /moral price i would be extremely grateful if they got in touch

thing is, most people sell by the cubic meter, say £90 cube, a transit depending on size will be at least 3 cube, so 315 isnt that bad. the days of cheap wood are gone, alot of us firewooders have to buy in timber as we dont get enough from arb jobs to cover our customer base. it costs money and time to process wood. the old guy with the £85 transit load prob packed in coz he couldnt make any money selling at that price. good luck mate.:001_smile:

Try John on 075381 23957 he does 3.5m3 about £140 150 loose delivers 15 mile radius of SK16.

£75 a M3 from 079660 67842 Wigan.

Mik Sharples 017722 50785 he is in Preston

There is also a place in Cadishead area but dont have the number .

Even buying in from some distance and paying the extra for fuel could still be cheaper than £315.

Cheers Midway I will give them a call later on

Thanks for your reply hodge .We do not have many local suppliers as i guess we dont have that many people with wood burners , i do process my own wood when the opportunity arises and i know what a time consuming and hard process that it can be . What i cannot help thinking about these suppliers is that they are profiteering. some of them are really big outfits and i guess they come with really big overheads and looking at where they will deliver to they are in demand but to charge that amount of money is outrageous .

Hodge reading your post again about not getting arbs jobs , my local council have been cutting tree's down left right and centre and its all contractors doing the work not council ops ,but the point is they throw all the wood into chippers and leave it in the shrubbery's as mulch !!!! I actually asked if i could have it they said no, i then asked if what if i paid you for it reply was the same . If councils are strapped for cash and they are all wanging trees down due to elf and safety they could earn themselves revenue by selling the wood on to people like yourselves who then process it and sell it on . It broke my heart watching them chipping an avenue of mature horse chestnut .It would of kept me in wood for the rest of me life

I'm in st helens and have 8 cube ready to burn sat in 1 cube cages. I can deliver them in the cage 6 at a time.

If you keep the cages its £25 deposit per cage but if you dont keep the cages you dont pay the £25. Also if you keep them till they are empty then you get the £25 back when we get the cage back.

£100 per cube/cage delivered to your door
