Think it's hardwork now,I was rooting thru our grandpops photos of himusing handsaws and moving it with horses ,can't get my head around how physically demanding it must have been before power saws

Its not easy work and the money is bad, but I'd rather cut than do that climbing rubbish!

I'm mainly working small hardwood woodland patches, and bigger stuff when I can. Its alright :)

What sort of employment do these companies run? Is it seasonal and full time or do they employ relief workers or what? Ideally id love to be a relief worker whilst im going through arb college...got to get the CS tickets first obviously....

In most cases you would end up as a self employed cutter working on a tonnage rate.

Normally self employed some estates will be employed. Obviously the FC will be employed. Mechanical forestry does have relief workers but you'll normally get the night shift!

Forestry is a hard game to get into forestry is expensive. If you get your timber from the FC they will want to you to have all your certs to work on the site. If there is any windblow on the site you'll need 34. If you want to do harvesters/forwarders expect a 2 week course at 1500 quid a week.

And that equates to 40m3 in this case on steep ground inc stacking a variety of products.

Tom - flippin nice one mate.

 to the backstage critics.

40m3 a day is awsome output on the steep ground.
