Guesstimation for a Big Dougie?

Recommended Posts

He's fairly sure on the height, I trust his judgement.

Hadn't thought about the open grown branches and the effect on timber quality, makes big sense.

Access is a big issue here (very narrow single track), any one got info on mini loders etc?

Thanks for the input fellas

In the woods near us they high prune the Douglas to increase the timber value. They used to employ some one full-time to do this with a pole saw.

My Boss has some open grown Douglas that he planked and has someone interested in buying it. The price I was told for the planked timber was £18 a Cubic foot.

I think Douglas is fantastic wood and well worth saving.

If your Doug is as nobbly ('boney' round here) as Logo's one, I don't think you'll get any interest from sawyers. If it's tidier it's worth digging out timber frame builders round your way and seeing if they're keen, they might have a milling contact.

It's fantastic building timber, very sound stuff for windows and doors as well as framing, also very good weatherboard.
