I've got a copy of the course handbook now, which gives more detail of what the course covers. Difficult to tell what the course is really like though.

I was at the Plumpton open day a couple of weeks ago, but didn't know about the course then...

Hi, i did the first year of that course at Plumpton. Had to leave for financial reasons so i left with a foundatioin certificate (equiv HNC i think).

The course is excellent for your biology, botany, tree ID, legal stuff. You get CS30 and 31 training there too.

Perhaps the best part of the course for me was walking through the woods on field trips with the lecturers while they talked from their own experience rather than just sticking to the syllabus. They are all knowledgable, dedicated people who were in the industry for years.

Jon Cornford runs the course there. He is a good man and really knows his stuff.

We did a lot of practical training in cross cutting, maintenance, felling and woodland plotting, mensuration, tree and plant ID, botany and soil science. Good day visits.

The college itself is not bad. In a great setting in the middle of sussex, can be tricky getting there if you dont drive. I rode a push bike from Brighton each day or shared lifts with friends.

There are a lot of very young students at the college and they can be a pain in the arse but generally everyone rubs along.

The administration and paper work side of things was always a bit patchy there but that has probably changed, since the FdSc was pretty new at the time. The library there was refurbished a few years back and you would have access to the Brighton university libraries and campus too, which is useful.

I use some aspect or other of the training i got there in my duties at work every day.

Hope this helps mate.

I've got an offer of a place so it looks like I'll be going for it. Was a bit shocked to discover that what I thought was the total course fee is actually the cost per year, so it's nearly £7k

It is a lot of money, but I think it will be worth it.
