Advise on prussik loops

Trying to find out what i need as i'm buying the first stage of my climbing kit.

I intend to make my own prussik loop but i'm unsure on the length of rope i'll need to buy.. thanks in advance.

length of prusick depends on alot of things how you climb, how tall you are how long your arms are etc.

 

I think the last time i bought friction cord for prusick i got 2 m for one prusick but that is pretty long. if you get a few meters you can play around with lengths and stuff.

 

remeber that knots take up a fair amount of the loop

As long as the knots good it doesn't really matter, it will take time to see what you prefer.

I like long for ascending and short for moving round the crown

If you order the amount you need then + 60cm for the knot you won't go far wrong.

 

Example if you want it to be 50cm long / 100cm round just add 60cm for the knot. Total length 160cm

Don't forget to get some shrink wrap to make marking it up easy.

Gunna buy a few meters of a few types of accessory cord when i have some money , and have a go with each, having only climbed on silverstreak i wanna see what others are like

Each side of the double fishermans takes up approx 11 inches in old money or 280 mm in new so overall you loose about 22 inches or 360mm

i'll just get a 3 meter length and have a play around. was considering getting an ocean polyester prussik... dont know if that advisable?
