Just get the Deakin Flathers Ripper 37s...they really are phenomenal blades- really long lasting and loads of resharpens- they work out pretty cheap in the long run. I would hate to have a weld fail on me during use!

While we are on the subject of band saw blades I would like to pick the collective brain a little.

I am the proud owner of a pair of band saw wheels and blade guide. I took them out of a large Stenner resaw that was bound for the scrap yard. I intend building a mobile band saw using these parts.

The engineering part is simple enough the questions I have are about blade length and type. Clearly you guys with proprietary machines just order the appropriate part but where would I go to get a blade made to length

Is there a particular tooth pattern for green timber?

Is there a correlation between tooth pattern and blade speed and what sort of speed do I need to run the blade at?

Thanks

Andy

We get our bands made to order by southern counties saws. They weld up the 18' 6" wide lenghs of steel into the band.

As for teeth setting the saw doctor setting them for what we're cutting. Larch has a wider set than oak and chestnut for example. As for speed i'm not sure, ill try to look at the motor speed on monday.

agreed ripper 37's are awesome

having a weld fail would only be like having an old saw snap? just makes a loud bang and then get on with it aha

back when granddad was a saw doctor he used to gas weld saws together, i would love to learn how to do that, just to have another string to my bow ahaha, got some cool paper work he gave me all about this sort of stuff, i'll scan it in sometime :001_smile:
