I was thinking of putting an advert in the firewood directory for this coming season, how are you guys/girls that have signed up finding it? are you getting many enquires/orders from it. I've just done a quick search on google by putting in firewood suffolk/firewood cambridgeshire which there are one of each in arbtalk directory and nothing came back. how are people finding the directory in the first place.

Paid for itself in first week and got a tree job out it aswell, could of had more but I was too expensive for them but certainly gets the hits:)

The google presence will come with time as people take up listings...the more listings and content the higher it will rank overall. So far uptake has been a bit disappointing with only a fraction of those who said they'd have a listing taking one. Thats probably partly down to me though as I was a little late launching it, and i expect a lot of guys had run out of logs at that point.

A lot of traffic will be coming to the directory through the banners on arbtalk. The firewood forum gets 18,000 page views a month, and with the amount of google listings the various threads in the firewood forum have, it generates a lot of traffic from homeowners researching firewood.

I haven't signed up because I am finding it hard to make small deliveries pay. I am thinking of selling wholesale actually just to get rid of the stuff.

I think the directory is an excellent idea however and as uptake improves so will rankings.

For the cost you may be suprised at the wholesale orders you get. We get Log orders from large houses for 14 cu metres for the winter. And large wholesale orders for our kindling ie inexcess of £5000 in one order.

Steve i was one of those who said they would of placed an order when you launched the directory last year the only reason i did'nt was the exact thing that you mentioned, if i had advertised here i would not have had enough logs to supply my regular customers, but i will be signing up for next season.

Yep, as i said, it was rather later getting launched than the developers estimated...by about 3 months!

Should hopefully pick up soon, if it does i'll be setting up the same for tree surgery listings

Are there any "key words" that people can use to make sure that we can get the directory higher up the google search?

any and all basically! obviously you keep the main keywords you want in your title and tags, such as area covered, firewood/logs etc. but as for the rest of the content, theres heaps of room to play around with, its almost a webpage in itself, so just write as much as you can think of putting covering as many relevant words you can think of at least once. If you browse through the existing listings you can some people are taking more advantage of this than others
