Anyone know what this bolete is? A colleague of mine found it hiding beneath the basal epicormic of a street avenue lime

Rob,

A bolete from the Xerocomus chrysenteron s.l. group, maybe an atypical X. communis, which is associated with lime and poplar.

Thanks Gerrit, what about this small bracket on a large lumpy labernum

Mmm, can't turn it the right way?

Rob,

Probably with rusty brown spores : a perennial Ganoderma species, i.e. G. australe. However, if with white spores : Phellinus igniarius.

No Idea Hama but it's growing out of the grass and the nearby woodchip. I don't think it was red to start with though as there are some other specimens close by that are almost pure white and still quite small.

This is Ileodictyon cibarium, see hiddenforest.co.nz fungi under Phallaceae.

Trying to get my head in order with the basic differences between ecto & arbuscular mycorrhizal (endo) fungi.

Then I read that Ectos have the propensity to penetrate the cells of roots, which (I had thought I had this one ticked off) is endo territory :confused1:

Now that's just not cricket ! :sneaky2:

for why ?
