The last five shots castanea sativa, a barn owl has been resident in this hollowed limb for a few years now.:thumbup1: you see, fungi create these habitats, its as much about the creation of habitats and woodland ecology as it is the fungi themselves for me.

I have no doubt that seeking these things out plays a huge role in my health and mental well being, and the more I learn the deeper my appreciation becomes. Till now i am uncertain if its OCD or just a love of nature!

But in all seriousness, I love being out there seeing, finding, discovery just experiencing these things.:001_smile:

Tony, do you only note the reaction in only Q. robur/

Do you mean to tell me that both in WW and @ croft the fact we was talking and looking directly at the effects on castanea went over your head!:001_rolleyes:

remember the buckle in whip on that twin stem castanea, and the fruit body higher up in the same vascular channels?

Rob,

Also see my album on Fistulina hepatica.

The one thing I notice in all those images Gerrit is that they are all basal, and while i too see this occasionally, mostly what i see here is adaptation and higher cankers and abnormal growths.

Do you get anything like this where you are?

Sorry, misunderstanding. I do know about castanea. What I meant was only on the one type of oak. As the big oak at croft is a Q. petrea!

I remember that one vaguely. I've seen so many since and as they were early days it's trickier to remember but I do a little bit.

The two fruiting bodies in my pic above was on top of a pollard head. About 8ft from the ground.
