I've got around 75-80 tonnes of beech turning up over the next few weeks to be split for logs. It's been stacked where it was felled for 18 months and is pretty dry. My question is how long do you have with beech before the wood goes all soft and useless? And what are people selling seasoned hardwood for per cube this year?

Cheers tim

I am suprised that it has not already gone to mush, as beech normally does not last more than a year outside. This year i am selling at £70 per cube regardless of species.

I would of thought once the wood is cut and split to dry it would then last for years or am i wrong? or does it just go soft if left in lengths for couple years?

And i am also £90 per cube

Last winter we found our smaller beech which had been cut a year was starting to rot. It would not have lasted another year. The larger sticks were not so bad, but still showed the signs. Our Sycamore was very similar. All our timber was stacked in our yard in the round at 2mtr lengths, open to the elements.

Went and had a look at the stack yesterday. Took an axe so I could see how hard the wood is. Every piece I hit was solid still, even the 3-4 inch stuff so even it being out that long has not done anything.
