We had to dig the neighbours garden to fix a collapsed drain. The drain guy had a thing that looked exactly like a metal detector but he said it only picked up a signal from the camera thing in the drain. The drains can be a several feet down and a metal detector wouldn’t find it but if it got deep enough it would probably get any number of old cast iron gas pipes and god else knows what else.

He marked the spot, we dug and came down on the collapsed drain to the inch.

A-ha but he hadn't put the camera down at that point. He was just trying to locate the drain.

By the way. He didn't find it??? (the drain, that is):-)

Funny thing, the broken drain was tracked pretty accurately by the local "eccentric" with nowt more than 2 bent coat hangers (divining rods). We had the length from the drain rods but the garden in question is kinda nice and the owner didn’t want it digging up on the say so of a man who is to all intents a sandwich short of a picnic and takes his fees in beer.

I was all for it but it wasn’t my call.:thumbup1:

Good day all: Might I suggest visiting a site Metal Detectors by Vernell Electronics - VR Detectors Home Page These dectors are made in the USA and are sold all over the world. I know the President/Ceo of the company and I plan on securing one in the near future, ask for Bill. He can answer I believe any questions you may have. Happy hunting
