do you guys who use the spider jack only use it with an Art positioner? it looks like to get the best out of it, you need this or a pulley saver, which then doubles the initial outlay.

Friction saver with a pulley is more than sufficient, they hate friction. Even the friction saver on its own does a decent job of getting it to run freely.

Spent enough cash on the spiderjack i aint throwing any more cash at them!:sneaky2:

I use a normal cambium saver with a pulley, no need for anything fancy and costly!

I have been using mine for a year now. I must agree with David G its not great for blocking down as the working end needs to be tight to the running line (idealy through a CS pully or small diameter branch). When putting weight back onto it, the running line beneath the jack needs raising to tilt it so it locks! When installing into a crab it requires locking in place from both sides with rubber or side loading can occur if it drops down the shaft of the crab. This doesn't look good when side loaded:001_unsure:

I have been alternating between the SJ and the Knots. i.e. Knut, Michigan, Distal, VT. In wet weather the SJ is supreme but in dry weather the Knut is my fav (it always locks:thumbup1:). All of the soft hitches are as good if set correctly and much cheaper.

no need to cut off the ring, just attach the pulley with a biner to the small ring. Good idea to get a play around with the spiderjack first but they do take a few days to get used to and get the full picture:thumbup1:

Here i am using it on a quick deadwood/spit branch job [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qRbucM0Kks]YouTube - ‪Cedar climb (my spiderjack setup)‬‏[/ame] I love it although i dont like it as much when taking stems down but other than that its awesome.

P.S yes i know my crab would be better the other way round.
