LPG Tipper??

Has anybody got an LPG/Dual fuel tipper?

 

Are there any benefits over diesel, cost wise?

 

We're looking to get a crewcab tipper and have been considering an LPG vehicle, but wonder if the cost of fuel works out much cheaper owing to the fact you get less miles per gallon running on LPG as opposed to regular diesel.

 

Can anybody shed any light on this??

Whilst not having ever runn an LPG tipper or similar, we've had a couple of LPG vehicles in the past (a legacy and a Disco V8).

 

For what the cost of getting a conversion done is, plus other things like the cost of gas now compared to petrol/diesel, trying to get hold of it consistently (a lot of places tended to be sold out or someone had driven off without disconnecting), difference in power between petrol and gas etc etc, I'd only really look at gas as an alternative if the vehicle was either very cheap for the condition, was already fitted to the vehicle before hand or it was the only real way I could justify the running costs - the last one being more of an issue with something like a big petrol 4x4 or similar.

 

But as above, running the disco worked out similar money wise to running the TDi equivalent but had the benefit of longer legs on the motorway and when needed, could be flicked across onto petrol for those moment is needed a kick up the arse.

We'd be looking to purchase a second hand vehicle with the gas side already fitted, and it will be used mainly for commuting a crew of three too and from site, covering approximately 4000 miles a month!

This is what made me think of LPG to cut down the running costs, but another concern is lack of power, as it will need to tow a chipper now and again.

I did used to know of an LA who fleeted up with LPG, the lads hated it! Drop in power, reduced mileage between fills and hassle getting to the right station. Half the time they were left on petrol! EA run some of their fleet on LPG as well and they could only use one brand of garage so they were constantly going out of their way to fill up.

 

Some years ago I ran a 4.2 Range Rover and it beat the newer shape RR with BMW diesel power for grace, pace and economy! You can't beat a V8!
