Its not the drawbar it self or for that mater how it is fixed to the base of the I-beams, that is all good enough and shows good design.

 

But look at the height of the I-beam and the sideways force a tractor would impart when turning a trailer, I-beam is prone to twist that way it is used for semi-trailers etc, it is strong in one direction but not so in others, just thing how tall and thin the metal is that forms the vertical part of the “I” is.

 

All for the want of <15kg of a single steel plate or 2 triangles it could be significantly stronger.

Looking good Steve, how did you get around the air suspension issue in the end?

 

Been too busy to sort anything yet still thinking on that one. Have space on front for tool box, chainsaws and petrol compressor maybe. Or I may go with the pto compressor idea and just flick the lever in cab when required.

The only thing I would say is if you do get a mog it would be better on the rockhinger (sp) hitch than a pickup hitch. It would not be a huge job to swan neck the draw bar.

 

I did think about doing that but any tractor that I am likely to justify for logs will probably give trouble. I will then need to hire in and it will be easier to get a tractor than a mog. I may buy something for 6k just for local work, if a job comes in with meat on £700 for a hire tractor for a week should not put a dent in the job when you consider wear and tear and tyre wear.

Its been in this week for some more serious brkts on the chassis and two pins about a foot behind the head board. Now have some work for it and cant get a tractor on hire because its harvest season the mog is owned by a friend who is too far away.
