vermeer bc150 not chipping well.

hi guys im hoping you can help, recently we got a vermeer bc150 all in good shape and health but when it comes to chipping thin brash it barely reaches the truck and ends up on the floor, blades are sharp etc. is this common with this machine and has anyone ever modded the spout?:confused1:

The anvil is the metal plate the knives shear against. As the knives wear the gap between them and the anvil increases. Small diameter material then tends to shred instead of chip. The anvil wears too. Its edge becomes rounded instead of square.

 

The manual should state the gap between knives and anvil.

Agreed. You can often tell when the anvil gap is to large. Small stuff comes out looking almost the same as it went in. Sometimes some brash will smell burnt too as it doesn't chip properly. Not sure if you can sharpen an anvil though. I know on mine you can't.
