Any one sharpen their own chipper blades. I have been sharpening my blades on the TW for 4 years now no problems. I use a white stone to sharpen and plunge in water to keep them cool. I never weigh them but on those pencile sharpener blades there isnt much to weigh.

The problem is that now I have a bandit 65 and thinking about sharpening and not so shaw about the bigger lump of metal.

Any ideas welcome.

Use a wet grinder with an appropriate jig to hold the blade. The scissor jig is probably the best for controlling the chipper blade.

The best (in my opinion) is Tormek, but the same factory makes a discount variant called Schleppach. Jigs and parts are mostly interchangeable between the two.

Both provide exact control of angles, and no risk of overheating the edge.

They are £100++

Well I got that exact grinder for sharpening wood chisles but never thought of using it for chipper blades. Must take a long time to sharpen though.:001_smile:

  • 4 weeks later...

yes, on my little bearcat, doesnt take an awful long time to be honest

i wish the knives were resharpenable, new knives are £10+vat, when you times that by 36 it starts to hurt. I found it cheaper to have new knives made in tungsten carbide steel by a local engineering firm
