Dear Mr Croft

Thank you for your enquiry. It would be possible to visit and look at the items that interest you. I would suggest that we arrange for you to meet the Park Ranger, Chris Howes, who would take you into the park and provide the background to your visit. He would also be able to make use of the estate minibus (capacity 16) to gain access to the further flung areas that would be of particular interest.

It would be best to avoid Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. On other days the minibus is in use between 1430 and 1530, so a morning visit would probably work best.

The total coast to include entry to the park and the use of the minibus would be £7.50 per person, based on 15 people.

I will await your reply with some suggested dates and times.

Subject: Veteren tree and fungi tour

Dear ray,

My name is Tony Croft, AKA as Hamadryad. I would very much like to bring a small group (10-15) to visit the cluster of veteran trees you have at the park early September. Could you please give me an indication of costs and practicality, we wouldnt really need a guide as such but would welcome one to ensure we dont miss anything “special” the group is mainly interested in veteran trees and fungi but biodiversity and ecology is also a big interest within the group, we have among our numbers bat specialists, mycologists and VTA experts (visual tree assessment) and tree managers and even a bryologist.

As you can imagine we are not your typical tourists and would be very sensitive to the flora and fauna, and are well aware of RDL status of most of what we may or may not see at the park, so you need not fear us stomping a rare orchid, or tiny fungi!

I look forward to hearing from you, and very much to visiting your wonderful trees and wildlife.

Tony croft

£7.50??? Cue sharp intake of breath. I'd better start saving, but I'm sure it will be well worth the outlay

As he's suggested a morning visit, are you thinking about going up the night beforehand and staying over somewhere?

It's a whopping 15 miles south of where I live.

If any of you guys do decide to overnight in the area please make sure to visit Folkingham, about 6 miles north of the castle as it has a real proper "Chocolatier" handmade chocolates, chocolate Ices, drinking chocolate etc. (am I giving too much away of what my favourite foodstuff may be and why I moved to this region of the globe..?)

Daniel

P.s I'd like to come but can't commit, with my wife working's hours being quite variable and a brace of anklebiters to look after. But I'd happily say yes and pay anyway if I can't make it.

:hmpf: (There's no green envy smilie....) You lucky pups.... sometimes its frustrating watching from afar...take loads of pics and be sure to describe your trip..perhaps a vid???

Thats a fine idea sean, been thinking of adding a video dimension to our walks since the foray last september. I think this would allow the others who would like to but cant still enjoy the best of the days.

as for pics a plenty do you ever fear that would not be the case!:001_smile:

If you ever come over we will get something organised, and if you need cheap digs you can always have the sofa!

I was keen until I googled the postcode. My devon passport will not allow me to travel that far up north. Maybe we could hook something up down here aswell?

I think theres a few folk down that end that want to get something oranised, I know arbgirl mentioned a great site a while back, I will look into doing a second one at your end the week after perhaps.

I have a small field, two yurts (12 and 24 ft), a smal geo-dome and approx 20ft from my door is a holiday cottage owned by my neighbours. They normally hire it for long weekends and weeks but perhaps I could arrange something. I could possibly provide sleeping space for 8-20 depending on how much comfort one desires, the cottage sleeps another 5 I believe.

You're also more than welcome to bring a tent.
