Quick advice needed

Hi, I just need some independent advice, basically I have woken up today to find that someone has sawed halfway through my tree, the trunk is about 6inches across, can I keep the tree and hope it repairs itself or does it have to go, the cut is about a meter from the ground and the tree is about the height of the house??

Thanks in advance

Fell it. The tree will likely carry on growing fine, but will always be a hazard and the wound will be prone to decay. it will inevitably have to come down at some stage(if it doesnt of its own accord), so it would make sense to do it whilst its small and still a cheap job. get something in there quick to replace it with :)

What kind of tree? And what did they saw it with? If done with a builders wood saw then the cut will be narrow and it could graft itself back together, but it depends on the risk of the tree falling wether its worth trying to save. If it was cut with a chainsaw then fell it for sure.

If its small enough you could brace it with posts and ratchets straps and give it a year and see?

But if its not a great tree then probably not worth the bother/risk.

why did they saw half way through your tree?:confused1:
that happened near here about a month ago, someone cut about 8 mature roadside oaks as if to fell them on the road but left them standing, the trees belonged to weston park estate and had to be felled, really strange thing to do

Really bad criminal thing to do.

Its no different than keying someones car, well actually its probably more like loosening the wheels nuts!

Can you post a pic of the damage?

Is probably best to fell and replant though.
