The green hook thing mentioned earlier is the O-Tom tick remover. Costs a couple of quid and you get two sizes in the pack. I never seem to get ticks myself but it works a treat on my dogs.

When I worked in the states we used to use 'Avon pure and clear' moisturiser. It seemed to work far better than any deet based product when in the forest. The old boys claimed the best way to remove one is to hold the burning tip of a cigarette as close as possible to the tick and they retract and you just brush it off.

One of the girls where I worked contracted Lymes disease.

Sorry skin so soft was the product... It was 14 years ago and the memory is a bit of a hoop these days. For the uninformed a memory like a siv is slightly better than one like a hoop.

From what ive read about ticks burning them off coating them etc is bad news as this is what can make them puke their stomach contents back into your system.

They have licks for Cattle an Deer that has a load of Garlic in it this is supposed to ward off the little buggers and the midge as well.

we get quite a few each year here in hampshire, working in hazel coppice woodland with a fair number of deer. i use the o tom tick remover and its a good bit of kit for the money. once removed remember to keep an eye on the bite area and if a rash develops, or you get the classic bulls eye ring around the bite get to the doctors and explain what happened. as i understand it if the tick is removed correctly within 24 hrs there is minimal chance of infection. dont cover or burn ticks as they can pass the infection on before they drop off.

Avon 'skin so soft' is about the best insect repellent going full stop!

Bingo! Thats what we use, it works a treat for pretty much everything. Makes my head shine though...
