Sorry in advance for this boring topic !

Does anybody know, in ball park figures... How many Cubic meters (m3) of split logs would one hope to make from 1 tonne of hardwood cord (6-12 months old so I'd guess 35-40%mc)

Thanks.

Thank you very much for your replies. Chain size I dont know off hand but I shouldn't it'll drastically effect the calculation ? As for the length I'd say about 30cm.

I'm surprised you think it could be as much as 3m3 because I'd have guessed more like 1.5 to 2 ? Cheers.

i have just converted 2 tonnes of green oak into 6 bulk bags (builders) and still have about a bag and half of big stuff to split and bag !

the builders bags are over .75m3 and under 1 m3 and there full right up !

1.5 to 1.6 max less if its oak

im with steve on that, so if all of you do some quick calculations.... is firewood worth buying in at £35 -£45 per tonne, green @ roadside??????

there's easier ways to earn no money..... :001_tt2:

i'd have said around 1.5 as well, dependant on species.

we sell in crates of just over a meter cube, and one of those weighs between 600 and 750 per crate, again dependant on the species.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your feedback. I'm going with 1.5 - 1.7m3 I think. Twistedhicap, I think your calculations must surely be out ? Those bulk bags are actually closer to 0.5m3 or maybe 0.6m3 if full to the max, but thanks for your thoughts anyway.

So, baring in mind that most pick up loads of firewood advertising 2m3 are more often than not closer to 1.5m3 then a tonne of cord equates to one "load" of logs.
