Hey Tommer,

Yeah i think my cooling system was a lil past its best - along with rest of car sadly. Worst was a mate who ignored a tiny lil coolant loss on an old 300tdi with over 150k on clock, result one head in scrap pile as i belive the 300's use an alloy head so cant take heat the same. my thoughts were kinda just dont push to limits on long hills if you even suspect cooling system a tiny bit - gets expensive quick.

The transfer box uses disco gears, got from ashcrofts (brilliant service) so does uprate low and hi ratios.

300tdi airlocks and overheats very easily when there's a coolant leak, i put a new head on the disco after it airlocked on the motorway, there was found to be a small coolant leak behind the timing belt

Thats called the p gasket and comes with a new pump. The reason the 300 is more prone to overheat is the water pump is at the top of the engine so level gets low no flow. The 200 has pump at botton so keeps safe longer its called land rover progress.

the 300 tdi will survive a cooked head BUT if its been properly cooked the blocks suffer to the point you can deck them and fit new heads but that engine will always suffer from premature head failures or never be a good runner ! the heat knackers the block !

the air lock can occour if its not filled and blead correctly ~! thats why there is a bleed/ filler ontop of the thermostat housing and the rad ! the header tank is at the same levelk as the stat housing !

If loaded correctly and the brakes are working properly on the trailer, this wont be an issue, even if overloaded.

I agree if the trailer is loaded correctly and the brakes are working properly, but a 110 will be more stable than a 90 always provided both are fully maintained.

Advice was being asked for reguarding trailer length/type, the model/wheelbase of the towing vehicle was not stated at time of post apart from Land Rover.

Hi, you don't say how many you're planning on moving, or how regularly you plan on doing this, which would probably be worth considering in terms of how you might go about it.

If it's small quantities, infrequently, then a cheap plant trailer from ebay would carry 7-8 lengths at a go quite happily. Don't forget you can overhang the bed by up to 3.05m, so in practice something with a 3m bed would be fine - just move a lighting board out to the end of the logs.

If you're only planning on loading small quantities then a hand, or electric winched A-frame loader might be a cheap solution. I tend to move single oak butts about 2ft across x 20ft long and can't justify the cost of heavier plant, but this works fine for me.
