bent 120cm bar to straighten

had a frustrating day trying to fell a large pine tree. the result is one hung up tree and a bent bar. should i try to straighten it or should i get it done by someone who has the right tool. i need it perfectly straight for milling. and the last time i tried on a smaller bar i ended up with an S bend.

Buy a new bar for milling and get somebody with the tools to try to straighten the old one and use it for felling.

Thats a big bar to bend. You'll more than likely need to get a new one as they just never bend back totally streight. Even if you do get it right they'll always be a kink in the rails which will knacker the drive links of the chain.

thanks for the replies. gutted. looks like its a felling bar then. big lesson learned today. rope the tree and remember to knock in a felling wedge.

bend him back! one of my old 36" dolmar bars is slightly got slightly bent, but i managed to bend him back

I've never tried straightening one but it may be possible.

 

A bar this length will be solid and not laminated.

 

What make was it by the way?

Our bar straightener is a great tool for this job, but as already mentioned, if it's a laminated bar it won't be easy to straighten. Solid bars are no problem at all

why? Do you intend to bend many bars?
