Are the USA saws any lesser quality as i think they are make in Brazil i think.

I beleive they are behind on the models by the look of things

An example of the prices are a 290 Farm boss cost 389 USD with local tax which is about £250!!

Ok its not worth it to import on its own but i can now understand why i have seen saws being brought back as luggage from sthe states..

I spend a bit of time on the US arb site and the US guys simply wouldn't put up with a lesser quality machine, ask yourself why Stihl only have the workshop manuals for download in the US - the figures talk!

must be ce marked

Dear Dorian: I can understand the difference in price considering the exchange rate at this time. The CE mark can be a problem, I know from my own experiance with exporting product into the UK. I also agree with warranty issues and any dealers wanting to work on said equipment. There may also be issues with fuel blends for US brand equipment and available fule blends for EU equipment. You may just have to bite the bullet and go with your local supplier.

If it had been so, I would agree but it isn't. STIHL USA don't make the service manuals available online

Excerpt from Frequently Asked Questions - STIHL USA

STIHL parts lists and service manuals are only available to our STIHL-trained technicians and Dealers. Should you have specific technical questions, contact your local STIHL Dealer or STIHL Customer Service at 1-800-GO-STIHL.
