powered winches for lifting limbs

I am sure I recall a chap on treebuzz that adapted a heavy duty cordless drill to fit the GRCS...

I believe that is a standard feature on it.

Has this become a GCRS V'S Stein RC thread ??:001_tongue:

Basically at the mo i can't afford either, but have a couple of chances of borrowing or hiring a winch. Was just a passing thought as a way of speeding the process and handling the loads.

Will have some fun experimenting with ratios. How far can you go with ratios on 14mm double braid?

ps. just when you thought you'd seen every Reg Coates video...

thanks guys.

Stu

Yes, all you need is a bit to fit in a drill and into the GRCS where the handle normal goes. I had one made and its works ok but you would the mother of all cordless drills to run it properly, the big stihl petrol drill would be best but then its sort of gets a bit a silly at that point.

There wont ever need to be a stein/grcs conversation. The two are not in the same leage at all, and the stein ones were never meant to be in competition with the grcs, they simply fill a huge void between portawrap and hobbs block, and fill it very well they do to. I would still like to get one!

Pardon me Butch,

Stein Dual

Apologies for the derail Stu. FWIW, there are several cheaper options/accessories out there to complement one of the smaller, lowering devices on the market. Best of luck

I've got a stihl petrol drill for sale if you're after one. It's hardly done any work, great condition. Pm me for more info.

Or a hobbs.

You can also make up a 4-1 advantage setup using a couple of double pulleys and a large rope grab.

Stein also make one compatible with their lowering gear.

Tom, do you mean the open cheek pulley thing? How much lift have you got with a Hobbs?
