powered winches for lifting limbs

Have had a few jobs where tip tying the limbs and hinging them towards the block would have been the quickest and neatest way to remove them, but sections are too big to do so by man power. Would a winch such as a chainsaw powered one be safe and offer sufficient control ?

GRCS would probably be the safest/easiest one man can lift 500kgs easily and the switch over to lowering again is easy and smooth.

Or a hobbs.

 

You can also make up a 4-1 advantage setup using a couple of double pulleys and a large rope grab.

Stein also make one compatible with their lowering gear.

I am sure I recall a chap on treebuzz that adapted a heavy duty cordless drill to fit the GRCS...
